Winter Wellness Ideas - June 2022

Published: Monday 20 Jun 2022

Heading into winter, we tend to see motivation dwindling like the daylight hours and energy plummeting like the temperature. The result is a feeling of lethargy and a lack of spirit to accomplish what we normally would in the warmer weather.

But we’re here with a few tips to help you stay fit, healthy, and active to kick goals this winter.

Nutrition

We are what we eat so fuel your body wisely.  What we put in our bodies dictates how we feel most of the time.  So, it will be just as, if not more, important in winter.  Add generous servings of vegetables in your warming soups, and fruit to your morning porridge - stewed fruits make a delicious topping to your steaming bowl of oats.

Planning

Plan your exercise! It can be incredibly difficult to get up again once you’re rugged up on the couch at the end of the day. Plan your exercise in advance; stick it in your diary and tell a friend. If you find more motivation exercising in a group setting, book your classes in advance. If you need someone to keep you accountable in the gym, we have Personal Trainers ready and waiting to kick you into action this winter! Find out more.

The benefits of cold weather

Embrace the cold! The cold temperature actually helps keep you fit and healthy.  Exercising outdoors in the cold can be beneficial in many ways; your heart pumps harder to support the activity while also keeping your body temperature up. Your body will burn more calories trying to keep you warm too! The cold helps lower the body temperature before we fall asleep. This means you will fall asleep faster ensuring adequate rest and recovery for the next day’s activities!

If exercising in the cold is not for you, come try our group fitness classes to get your blood pumping. Our pool-based Aqua classes are heated to a lovely temperature!
