Published: Friday 01 Sep 2023

Margaret, longtime member and pillar of the Aqualink Box Hill community, is celebrating her 99th birthday milestone. Margaret has proudly been a part of Aqualink Box Hill since 2016 and has forged many friendships and connections in the community along the way.

Born in England in 1924, Margaret credits her longevity to genes and good luck. In 1942, at 18 years old, she joined the Women’s Royal Air Force (WRAF) as an equipment assistant, and in 1945, while on a 48-hour leave, she met her future husband Tony at a local dance. They married in 1946 and enjoyed a remarkable 69-year marriage.

They relocated to Australia in 1949, eventually settling in what is now known as the City of Whitehorse in 1951 and raised two daughters. Margaret, a talented baker influenced by her grandmothers, was famous within her family for her splendid Christmas cakes. She also sewed, creating dresses and costumes, a skill taught to her by her Nana. Margaret's green thumb extended to crafting posies from her garden's flowers for her friends. Additionally, she dedicated time to knitting beanies and teddy bears for children in hospitals.

She was an active member of the Aquatic group at Aquarena starting in 1984 and, since 2016, has been a cherished part of the Aqualink Box Hill community. Margaret's sharp wit and numerous friendships have made her an integral presence. Margaret's life, brimming with accomplishments and connections, showcases her enduring charm.

We would like to wish Margaret a very happy 99th birthday and hope you have a beautiful day celebrating with your friends and family.
