Paul Allen - Our very own Weightlifting Master

As a Masters Athlete, I have passionately competed in Weightlifting for the past 15 years. I am currently in the 55-59 age bracket. Weightlifting is a fascinating Olympic sport. It consists of two competition lifts: the snatch and the clean and jerk. The lifts require a perfect combination of strength, speed, coordination, flexibility and balance.

Over the years I have competed in several state, national, and international events.  I have proudly won seven Victorian Masters Championships. I have also achieved silver medals at the Australian Masters Championships and the Oceania Masters Championships. I take immense pride in the fact that I have held five Victorian Masters weightlifting records.

As a member of the Hawthorn Weightlifting Club, I was lucky to have trained alongside some incredibly talented athletes who have represented Australia at Olympic and Commonwealth Games. Weightlifting is an individual sport that allows me to train and compete whenever I please. This has been a significant advantage as I can choose the training schedule that best fits my personal and professional commitments.

Weightlifting is a sport that has given me a lot of joy and satisfaction over the years.  Not only have I been able to stay fit and healthy, but I have also been able to compete at the highest level and win accolades.
