public artwork at Aqualink Nunawading. In 2002, the City of Whitehorse unveiled a major public artwork at Aqualink Nunawading.

The large three meter high glass and photomedia artwork spans 12 metres across the front of the Centre. “I wanted to create something pretty punchy that suited the space”, said the artist Christopher John.

The mural consists of 38 colourful and textured glass panels. The 15 larger panels depict Olympic swimmer Susie O‘Neill doing the butterfly stroke. The images selected relate perfectly to the space available and superbly illustrates the beauty and energy that is swimming at its best. It also demonstrates the reflective and dynamic quality of water. The smaller panels depict the range of activities that take place at the refurbished aquatic facility in Forest Hills.

The photographic images have been stenciled onto the back of the textured glass, fired and given a luscious background coating of metallic paint.
