Whitehorse Council has provided in principle support for a major redevelopment of Aqualink Box Hill in order to improve the facilities and services at the Centre.
A draft concept and staging plan has been developed that would include the following improvements:
- Upgrade of the aquatics area including a new warm water hydro pool to cater for people with special needs, a new water play, splash and toddler pools for families to enjoy.
- A new spa sauna area, pool deck showers and first aid room as well as improved change rooms.
- Expansion of the health/fitness and gym/weights areas including new program rooms to enable group fitness classes and other activities to run concurrently.
- Redevelopment of the 25 metre outdoor pool with it to be relocated closer to the indoor aquatics area.
- A new municipal gymnastics facility.
- Creation of a new wellness centre and day spa.
- A new crèche/multipurpose room and meeting rooms.
- Refurbishment of the existing reception and office areas.
- The Centre’s car park will also be extended.
Overall, the proposed redevelopment provides a much needed refurbishment of the Centre providing improved access, especially for families and the young, older people and special needs groups, along with better facilities for general Centre users.
A total of $600,000 has been allocated in the 2008/09 Budget to undertake consultation, design and detailed costings.
